Welcome to the email technical support frequently asked questions and answers. Below is a list of the most common questions related to email, simply click on the question to reveal the answer
Log into your Members Area https://secure.freedom2surf.net and use the create new email account link.

    You generally have 2 options.
    1. You can send and receive using our webmail service https://webmail.freedom2surf.net this also includes a calender and address book.
    2. You can use an email program on your computer such as outlook express or mozilla. To do this you must configure the email program before you can send or receive. Please see our list of tutorials for a guide on how to do this. Also log into your members area and check you are using the correct settings.

All of the settings you need to setup your email program can be found in your Members Area in the email section.

Newly created email accounts will not be ready to use until the following morning, about 9.30am. The best way to check a new account is active is with Webmail https://webmail.freedom2surf.net
If brand new creation is not the problem try the following, check that the address is in your members area, re-set the email password and try again on Webmail. This could take up to 24 hours - passwords should be updated the following morning, about 9.30am.
If this has worked but you are still having problems setting up your email client, check the pop/smtp settings in your Members Area and then consult our tutorials, for further help with sending problems see the help paragraphs below.

You will need to change your firewall to open the following IP address range for SMTP incoming email:-

    195.224.224.192 through 195.224.224.208

To send emails you should use outmail.f2s.com as your smtp server. This applies when using an email program on your computer such as outlook or outlook express.

If you are using a freedom2surf internet connection and you get this error, you must ensure that you turn off the "use authentication" on your outgoing server. To do this you will need to go into your email program and edit your account settings.

If you are not connected to the internet via freedom2surf and you would like to use outmail.freedom2surf.net to send emails you must enable authentication on your outgoing email server in your email program settings.
The username and password should be the same as you use to collect your emails.
For some email programs you must also enable SSL for authentication to work. This is usually found in the advanced options within your email programs settings.
If it still fails to work, try turning off the 'outgoing email' scanning option in your anti virus software. Some virus scanners are not compatible with the SSL protocol.

Change the name of the outgoing server to be outmail.freedom2surf.net

    The limit is 32MB.

Our outbound email service has the following limitations in place:

    1. Two concurrent TCP connections
    2. 10 messages per TCP session
    3. 150 recipients per message
    4. Maximum message size 32Mb
    5. 500 recipients per hour.

When you collect your emails using POP3 the emails are downloaded from our server and saved to your computer. Only one POP3 connection can be opened at a time, and this cannot be used at the same time as IMAP.
When you choose IMAP you can see your emails as if they are on your computer, though in fact they are still on our server. You can check this with webmail. Several IMAP connections can be opened simultaneously. This is useful if you need access to your emails from different locations.

It is most likely that your email username or password is incorrect. Please check in the Email Section of your Members Area https://secure.freedom2surf.net for the appropriate username to use for collecting email. If this is correct then use the reset password link to reset your email password and try again.

This means there are too many emails saved in your email account. Please log into your email account using Webmail https://webmail.freedom2surf.net and ensure you have purged your deleted emails by clicking on the purge deleted link. Also check your folders and inbox for large emails and download them using POP3 (This will remove them from our server and save them to your computer) or delete them.

You can set up your own email forwarding for your f2s email address using the email sieve https://webmail.freedom2surf.net/websieve/websieve.pl.

Out of office messages can be managed from the email sieve https://webmail.freedom2surf.net/websieve/websieve.pl.

Yes, you can turn spam and virus filters off for any email address from the Members Area.
We do not recommend this as it will leave you completely unprotected.

    The limit is 20MB.

We employ a centralised content and reputation based system which monitors outgoing email for messages which can be categorised as SPAM.

The problems created by users spamming (either intentionally or by virus) via our mail servers are well known:

    • Blacklisting (eg SpamCop).
    • Complaints from third parties.
    • Excess load on the server (outgoing and incoming bounces)

Customer operated open mail relays or misconfigured mail servers have also caused performance issues by sending thousands of messages out to our mail platform.

Each email sent via our SMTP service is checked using sophisticated 3rd Party content and reputation based analysers and if email messages are rated as being SPAM messages the originating email address will be sent a bounce message. This means that virtually all SPAM messages do not reach the outside world and the outbound load on our servers is reduced.

It is quite possible one of the computers in your network which is connected to the freedom2surf outgoing email servers has been infected with a virus.

You should immediately run an up to date virus check on these computers.

You will need to call our technical support team or log an issue via our web based support system detailing your requirement and providing an example the non-SPAM email that you wish to send.

Our support team will provide you with details of the alternatives available to you.
